In the last edition of Touch & Go (March - April 2021), I expressed hope for a return to some sort of normal life for everyone after hearing the positive
news about the availability of vaccines for COVID-19. Mass inoculation is well underway now, but the impact of vaccinations on the scheduling of future Society
events is still uncertain as we wait for updated health policies from city, county, and state officials. However, The Board of Directors continually monitors
the situation and we will notify everyone by newsletter, email blasts, and our web site should conditions change.
While we wait for the return of normalcy, I recommend viewing a fascinating video about the origins of Silicon Valley called,
"The Secret History of Silicon Valley".
The video is an engaging presentation that starts with the development of radar during World War II and the Allies'
strategies for bombing Germany and the German's extensive radar network used for guiding their anti-aircraft weaponry. The presentation continues with information
about how Silicon Valley technology was used to protect B-52's and A-12's from Soviet radar during the Cold War (Did you know "The Dish" in the hills west of
Stanford was originally funded by the CIA and NSA for detecting Soviet radar waves that bounced off the moon?), Lockheed building missiles and satellites in Sunnyvale, and a lot more.
On a separate note, I want to thank all the staff of SAH for their efforts to keep everything moving smoothly during the pandemic. The Society is run entirely by volunteers
and they've had to modify some of their processes for health and safety reasons including printing the newsletter, banking, and managing our postal needs.
Finally, please stay vigilant during these challenging times by practicing all the recommended health policies.

Past President
