Thunder Over Michigan 2004 Page 1 Held during the weekend of August 7-8, the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Airport managed to pack the ramp full of aircraft for their 6th annual air display. Weather was cool for the area, and with the humidity down quite a bit, the weather reminded me of our California temperatures at the time. I had the privilege of flying in the YAM's Boeing B-17G Yankee Lady, and obviously was the highlight of my visit. I've tried to represent the aircraft on these two pages the best that I can, and had to highlight the heavies in attendance, with a few of the trainers added for representation. Each day there was flying by almost all of the aircraft, and Friday was great for catching the arrivals. Tragically, just a few months after this show, the YAM museum burned to the ground. Their B-17, B-25 and C-47 were sacved, but half a dozen aircraft were lost in the fire, along with all their memorabilia. If you care to help them rebuild, either with donations of supplies or monetary donation, visit their website at: http://www.yankeeairmuseum.org/ Thanks also to Mike Henniger who assisted with the information on these aircraft. As always, if you have any additional information or corrections for these pictures, let me know. All photographs were taken by Roger Cain (NC 148). |
