42nd Annual Reno National Championship Air Races 2005 Held during September 14-18, great weather greeted the spectators and racers with blue skies and light breezes. Attrition played heavily on the Unlimited racers and by the time the Sunday Gold races started, it wasn't hard to guess the finishing order of the racers. I've got a more detailed list in the last newsletter of 2005. John Penny in Rare Bear qualified with the best time at 470 mph, and won the gold race at 466 mph. As there are several dozen other websites that show very nice pictures of the racing aircraft, I'm going to do this page a bit different. Below are pictures of some of the aircraft that were entered in the Rolls-Royce Heritage Aviation Trophy competition, along with a few other interesting aircraft that could be found on the field during the races. I've also included a couple of racers with new paint schemes. If you have any additional information or corrections for these pictures, let me know. There is text attached to all the photographs.
