San Francisco Fleet Week 2008 October 11-12, 2008 was the weekend for the annual SF Bay Navy Fleet Week festivities and the largest air show I can recall seeing on the bay. As our SAH meeting was held on Oct. 11th at the Alameda Naval Museum, I attended the show on Sunday the 12th, using Fort Mason as my location for taking pictures from. Unlike past years, while we had perfect blue skies, apparently outside of the Golden Gate Bridge, the swells were pretty severe, thus the few ships that were scheduled to come in, came in Saturday night after dark instead. The S.S. Jermiah O'Brien Liberty Ship that is home based on the SF Bay, along with a SF Fire Boat were about the extent of the ship arrival. Some of the top performers included the US Navy Blue Angels, the Canadian Snowbirds, the Patriots in L-39 jets, and the Collaboraters. My main interest in the event was to see the MV-22 Osprey fly, and they put on a nice display. There were another half a dozen solo aerobatic performers flying some nice routines that brought them very close to the water, and there was a constant parade of vessels along the waterfront and around the bay. I hope you enjoy these few select pictures I've posted. Member Rick Pisio (SAH 146) has more pictures that he took on his website at: The Flight Line There is text attached to all the photographs. All photographs (digital - Canon 20D & 30D) were taken by Roger Cain (SAH 2). These photographs posted on 12-04-08 |
