Society for Aviation History

      Presidents Message for July 2007

Welcome to our special summer edition. Typically, this issue is our airshow photo issue, and this summer we've expanded it a bit. I hope you enjoy reading the articles and glimpsing into Bay Area aviation history through the excellent photos presented here.

This expanded edition took a huge amount of work by your fellow members and newsletter editor Betty Veronico. To give you an idea of what it's taken to put this together, your fellow members began working on this issue back in March. A big thank you to our members that took the time to write and photograph for this issue. Their names appear throughout the magazine. When you see them at future meetings, I hope you'll take a moment to thank them for their contributions.

Your membership dollars deliver six great newsletters, five outstanding educational programs, our great website, and the opportunity to participate in a number of enjoyable tours. The board of directors chose to bring this expanded edition to further increase the value of your membership. I'd like to get your input, pro or con, regarding this issue, and as to whether you'd like to see the summer edition expanded next year. Also, if you'd like to contribute to future newsletters, please let me know.

And if you would, please show this and our other newsletters to your aviation-minded friends. We're always looking for new members and, I think you'll agree, membership in the Society for Aviation History is a tremendous value.

For the balance of 2007, our educational programs will feature a Reno Air Racing Pilot's Panel in October, and our holiday meeting in December will feature Lockheed test pilot Tom Morgenfeld. For the first meeting of 2008, SAH member Andy Melomet is working on an aviation film program that should be educational and entertaining. Please bring a friend to a meeting and introduce them to our society.

Also, a quick note of thanks to our members for their recent generous donations. We raised enough money to knock the shrink wrap machine off the society's wish list, and we should have it up and running in time for the next meeting.

As always, thank you for your membership in the society and I look forward to being with you at our next event.

- Nick Veronico
