Society for Aviation History

President’s January 2007 Message:

Welcome to 2007! Our December meeting with B-2 test pilot and speaker Bruce Hinds was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who brought toys, and to those who supported our canned food drive. Although we did not get word out to everyone, and we apologize for that, the amount collected was an impressive 77 pounds . We plan to do this again at the October and December meetings, so please keep these events in mind. Check the newsletter calendar for dates, and watch these pages for more information.

At the December meeting, the election was completed and the results announced. The board was re-elected as proposed. The board subsequently elected its slate of officers for 2007, and they are:

Nicholas A. Veronico - President
Roger Cain - Vice President
Dan Morgan - Treasurer
Betty Veronico - Secretary

In addition, Matthew Mintz will continue to serve as tour coordinator. Dave Osgood and Rick Turner will remain as directors at large.

Norm Jukes decided to forgo being president for 2007 as he has a number of new commitments this calendar year. He will remain as an active member of the board of directors. Norm and the board guided the society through an emotional time and difficult decision-making process when the group was confronted with the American Aviation Historical Society's harsh financial demands. Norm will now be the society's first past-president and elder statesman. On behalf of the board and our members, Norm, we thank you for your devoted and professional service to the Society for Aviation History.

Subsequent to his reelection to the board, Ian Abbott was forced to resign due to work commitments. The biotech industry has called this high tech professional home, but Ian assures us he's here if we need him. As always, we appreciate your service and your input, Ian.

To fill the vacancy left by Ian Abbott's departure from the board, Alice Hendricks has graciously accepted appointment to the board of directors. Her professionalism and interest in aviation history made her a logical choice, and the board is excited to have her talents and input in the coming years.

Personnel changes aside, 2006 was a great year, and we're planning a number of great meetings and tours for 2007. Also note that your dues are due beginning this month. Check your address label for your dues expiration date. Remember to tell a friend about our society, the great people who make up our group, and our fantastic educational programs.

- Nick Veronico
