   President's Message for July/Aug. 2016

Welcome to another outstanding issue of our bi-monthly newsletter, Touch & Go. This is our Special Summer edition, expanded to 48 pages. It is assembled and produced by our members, for our members. As in issues past, we have a wide variety of subjects, lots of good content, and plenty of fantastic photography. I hope you enjoy this issue and will provide positive comments to the newsletter staff and contributors when you see them. Good work everyone and a job well done!

As the summer months come to a conclusion, many are looking forward to events this fall. Following up our very special June meeting, the first Air War Symposium will be held at Laney College in Oakland on Saturday, Sept. 10. Parking and admission to the exhibits, displays, and vendor area is free. Speakers include Jack Herris, who gave a great presentation to the SAH in June, and our long-time friend and historian Dana Lombardy. Herris will be revealing the world's first strategic bombing campaign, which began in 1914, and Lombardy will talk about "Nights of the Sky" in his discussion of air superiority in World War I. More information is available at: www.firstairwar.org

The following week, in Reno, Nevada, will be the National Championship Air Races, Sept. 14-18. Rumor has it that the highly-modified P-51 Strega will not be at this year's event due to the lack of a sponsor. We will see Voodoo and Czech Mate at this years races, however, Rare Bear is questionable. The Sport, Biplane, Formula One, T-6/SNJ, and Jet Classes are always fun to watch and attract large crowds. This year the Blue Angels are also scheduled to appear. Hope to see you there.

Look for info on our October and December meetings and future issues of Touch & Go and on our website, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
